John Ray Roberts,
age 71, passed away on Saturday June 9th, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio. Ray was born March 2, 1947, near Gomer, Ohio, the son of Owen S. Roberts and Iva (Vandemark) Roberts who preceded him in death. Ray graduated from Gomer High School and attended Bluffton College, before joining the Army and serving as a combat pilot with the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War.
After completing his military service, Ray lived in Newport Beach, CA, where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Harvey. The couple later moved to Greenfield, Ohio where Ray was a partner in JRC Consulting and member of First United Methodist Church where he sang with the Methodist Men’s group.
An avid golfer and dedicated Gideon member, Ray provided Kairos Ministry to inmates at the Lebanon Correctional Institution for more than two decades. He also served on various committees at the Ohio Veterans Home. Throughout his life, Ray was was known for his quick wit, humorous sayings, and easy smile.
Ray is survived by a twin sister Kay Studer of Elida, a brother Jim (Lora) Roberts of Dublin, a step-daughter Brenda (Kevin) Rawlings of Middletown, three grandchildren Isabelle, Madeline, and Felicity and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and brother, Bruce Roberts.
Graveside services will be held Friday June 22nd, at 11:00 a.m. at Pike Run Cemetery in Gomer, Ohio.
