John Morris Roush

John Morris Roush (Buzzy), 72, of Lima, passed away on May 1, 2023, at St. Rita’s Medical Center after a brave battle with cancer, with his loving family holding his hands.

John was born on May 27, 1950, in Lima, Ohio, to William and Dorthy (Redd) Roush who preceded him in death. On March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day he married the love of his life Mary Pat Phalen, who survives in Lima. They continued to celebrate their union for the next 50 years with a raised glass of green beer and a red rose for each year of marriage. John is also survived by the apple of his eye, his daughter Patricia Roush. He was the proud PaPa of his two grandchildren who he adored. Reid William Owens and Charlie May Owens all of Wapak, Ohio.

He is also survived by his brothers W. Thomas Roush (Mary Lou) of Estero, Florida, Charles Roush of Columbus, Sarah (Doug) First of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Brother-in-law Timothy (Lorie) Phalen of Sun City Center, Florida; nieces and nephews; one nephew, William (Will) Roush who was especially close to his heart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James (Jimmy) Roush; and his mother-in-law Patricia Phalen.

John was a 1968 graduate of Shawnee High School. He attended the Ohio State University. John retired from Husky after 40 plus years. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He loved playing golf, watching the Buckeyes, reading, traveling, and car shows. John enjoyed going to all of his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He will be remembered as a man with a great sense of humor, who never met a stranger, and always had a smile on his face with a kind word for everyone.

His family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and the staff at the Cancer Center, and St. Rita’s Hospital. A special thanks to the Hospice Team for the kindness and care he received in his final days.

As his final act of love, he gave the gift of sight to two people by the donation of his corneas.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with visitation 1 hour prior to service.  Father Kent Kaufman will officiate.  Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita’s Hospice or The Cancer Society.
