John Richard "Dick" Stokes,

90, died at 2:24 AM on Friday, June 05, 2015, at Baton Rouge Senior Health Facility in Lima, Ohio.

"Dick" was born on August 25, 1924, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Earl Hewett and Celesta Verna (Hall) Stokes. On Friday, June 04, 1954, he married Marilyn Alberta (Wiederkehr) Stokes.

"Dick" retired from the Ford Motor Company as an office clerk. He graduated from Lima South High School and was a cheerleader there. He attended Olivet Nazarene University. He had been a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Lima, since 1944 and during that time he had held several offices including their Choir Director. In his younger years he participated and hosted several revivals alongside his wife. He loved gardening. He tutored at the Literacy council in Lima for several years.

He fulfilled the role of grandfather to Christopher Hartman, Brandon Hartman, Andrew Hartman and Celesta Hartman. He also leaves a special niece and caretaker, Becky (Eldon) Hartman of Lima; brother, Harry L. Stokes of Lima and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by; six brothers, Hewitt, Donald, Glenn, Earl Jr, David, and Chuck Stokes; four sisters, Mary Elinore Nettles, Verna Isabel Davis, Patricia Joan Needham and Donna Kay Shibler.

His family will receive friends from 2 PM to 4 PM and from 6 PM to 8 PM on Monday, June 8, Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.

The Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 9, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Rev. Eldon Hartman will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
