John Jacob Thomas 90, died at 12:15 a.m. Aug. 26, 2007, at the Lima Convalescent Home. He was born November 5, 1916, in Jennings Township, Ohio to Howard and Ruth Boroff Thomas, who preceded him in death. On July 30, 1938, he married Era Kathryn Rigel, who died February 7, 2006. They were married for more than 67 years. Mr. Thomas had worked for Nickel Plate Road and Norfolk & Western Railroad. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple. Survivors include four daughters, Patricia (John) Mowen, Janet I. Thomas, Sandra (James) Downhower and Mary (Ronald) Neth, all of Lima, Ohio; two sons, Jay Thomas, of Denver, and Michael (Pam) Thomas, of Lima; four brothers, Ross Thomas and Doyt Thomas, both of St. Mary?s, Ohio, Carl Thomas, of Rockford, Ohio, and Dale (Mary Ann) Thomas, of Wapakoneta, Ohio; two sisters, Edith Harner, of St. Mary?s, Ohio, and Ruth May (Elmer) Hubbard, of Lafayette, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Janet Bocook and James (Renee) Downhower Jr., both of Columbus, Ohio, Erica Thomas, of California, John (Melissa) Neth and Bradley (Sharon) Thomas, both of Lima, Ohio, Jamie Downhower, of Chicago, and Scott (Erin) Neth and Barbara Thomas, both of Lima, Ohio; and six great-grandchildren, Austin and Autumn Bocook, Jose Thomas, and Jayde, Garrett, and Noah Neth. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Thomas, Sister-in-law-Laura Thomas. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Dan Wigton and Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
