John A. Young Jr. 86,
passed away at 10:05 PM on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center surrounded by family and close friends..
John was born on Wednesday, December 21, 1927, in Lima, to the late John A. Young Sr. and Edith [Deafendeffin] Young.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy. On February 5, 1957 he married Jeanette Ann Fisher who died May 8, 1996. He was a long time member of First Church of God at the Crossroads. Mr. Young drove bus for Lima Transit in 1951. He retired from the city of Lima in 1971 where he was appointed city sewage treatment plant operator by Mayor Christian Morris. Mr. Young loved to watch baseball, NASCAR, pitch horseshoes, shoot pool and tend to his vegetable garden. Everyone loved his sense of humor.
He is survived by a son John (Nancy Jo) Young, III, of Lima, OH; a daughter Jodi Ann Poling of Lima; a daughter, Marilyn Jean Moor and a daughter Carol Rich. He also is survived by eleven grandchildren, John IV (Maria) Young of Mayfield Heights, OH, Jennifer (Mark) Stevens of Pekin, IL, Kate Young of Lima, OH, Ann Poling of Lima, OH and Alexandra Poling of Minot, ND, Mary , Ann , Sara , Emily and Jeff Moor and Kevin Rich; and two great grandchildren, Clayton Stevens and Sydney Young.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Ann Marie Young, and a brother Kenneth Young formerly of Portland, OR.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home and from 9:00 AM till time of service on Monday April 28, 2014 at Crossroads Church of God.
Funeral Service will begin at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 28, 2014 at Crossroads Church of God, 775 S. Thayer Road, Lima, OH. Rev. Randy Bargerstock will officiate.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio. Graveside Military Honors conducted by VFW Post 1275.
