Johnnie Owens

Johnnie Owens, 83, passed away at 8:16 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.

Johnnie was born on October 15, 1939 in Columbus, Georgia, to Elliott and Emma (McBride) Owens Sr.

Johnnie served in the U.S. Marines from 1957 to 1963.  He worked as a Station Engineer for 26 years at Marathon Pipeline, retiring in 2000. Johnnie was a member of the Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church.  He was an avid motorcycle rider and also liked to shoot pool, go bowling, and play his guitar.  Late in life he loved getting together with friends to play Skip-Bo.

He is survived by his special nephew, Christopher (Lori) Stephenson; stepdaughter Patrice Godsey (Dan) Reinhart; sisters, Crissie Huggins and Juanita Owens; many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends; and former wife, Geneva Carol Owens.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jonathan “Cory” Owens; stepson, Brian Godsey; and brother Elliott Owens Jr.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A funeral service will follow at 12 noon.  Rev. Earnest Stephens will officiate.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church.
