Johnny Switzer

Johnny Ted (John T.) Switzer,
84 of Lima, Ohio died on Friday, December 16, 2011, at 9:39 P.M. at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.

Born Tuesday, March 15, 1927 in Bluffton, Ohio, he was the son of the late John R. Switzer and the late Opal P. Schifferly Switzer. He was the husband of Vonda M. Hagadorn Switzer; she survives.

Mr. Switzer enlisted in the United States Navy in November 1944 serving in the South Pacific as a Third Class Petty Officer on the USS Blackhawk AD9. He was in Tsing-Tao, China, Okinawah, Treasure Island and Green Bay, WI. when serving in the Navy. He was a graduate of Lima Central High School in 1945. Following serving in the United States Navy, he entered Northwestern School of Commerce and graduated in 1950 majoring in business administration and higher accounting. In 1955, He was manager of Singer Sewing Center, Van Wert, Ohio. Mr. Switzer became a Licensed Real Estate Agent in February 1956. He obtained his Real Estate Broker's License in May of 1957. In 1960, he joined with six other real estate companies and formed "The Lima Home Trade-In Corporation." Under his direction, a sound home trade-in program was provided to member brokers and their salespeople which resulted in an increase in the volume of sales and better service to their clients. Mr. Switzer was also co-founder of "The Lima Home Traders Association", an association of licensed brokers and sales people that were interested in participating in exchanges of real estate from one client to another. He headed this program as its president in 1961 and also in 1970. he was C.E.O. of Switzer Real Estate Co., INC. and also President/C.E.O. of Land Ventures INC., a real estate investment company. He was a member of West Central Association of Realtors, Ohio Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. He was an avid Elvis Fan and enjoyed outdoor living, fishing, hunting and traveling, especially to Mexico. For over 18 years, he was licensed by the state of Ohio as a professional Boxing Judge, judging contests in Lima, Toledo, Findlay, Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus.

Surviving are son, Dr. Ted (Jesus) Switzer of San Antonio, TX, daughters, Sally J. (Curtis) Swank, of Louisville, KY, Diana J. McCormick, of Columbus, OH and Linda A. (John Smither) Switzer of Columbus, OH.; four grandchildren, Darin Rumer, Dana Rumer, Devin Rumer, Brandt Davis,; Six great grandchildren and a loyal secretary and friend for over 30 years Lynne Wagner. Also several neices and nephews and cousins. A sister-in-law "Willie" Switzer.

He was predeceased by brother, Jack Switzer.

A Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, 920 N. Cable Road, Lima, OH 45805.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, , , .
