Joseph Gabriele

Joseph William ?Joe? Gabriele, 70, died at 10:36 a.m. August 12, 2010, at his residence. He was born Septemeber 24, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan to Jacob and Clara Vetarbo Gabriele, who preceded him in death. On February 23, 1963, he married Inge-Lise Gjeding, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Gabriele served in the Army from 1959 to 1962. He retired from General Dynamics Land Systems Division as a manufacturing engineer in 2004. He was an active member of the United Auto Workers union while with General Dynamics. He was a member of the Charitable Italian American Organization. He served as president while the organization was known as UNICO and as treasurer when the organization became CIAO. He was known as ?Cannoli Joe? for bringing delicious cannoli to the annual CIAO Pasta Dinner. Survivors also include two daughters, Linda Gabriele, of Lima, Ohio, and Gina Gabriele, of Los Angeles, California; a son, Anthony Gabriele, of New York City; a grandson, Airman Joseph T. (Brianna) Gast, of Denver, Colorado; and a sister, Clara June Gabriele, of Michigan. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Parker. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. David Ross will officiate. Burial of ashes will be later in Gethsemani Cemetery.
