Joseph Garlock

Joseph Eugene Garlock, 84, died at 6:40 a.m. June 26, 2010, at Shawnee Manor. He was born July 19, 1925, in Lima, Ohio to Alvin W. and Lenore Brice Garlock, who preceded him in death. On October 4, 1947, he married Patricia L. Christy, who survives. Mr. Garlock was a member of the Lima Police Department for 10 years. He was then the proprietor of Grand Hardware for 11 years. He retired as the chief investigator for the Allen County Prosecutor?s Office. He served in the Navy during World War II and was recalled to active duty for the Korean War. He was a charter member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He was a member of the U.S.S. Shangri La Association. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Jay Martin, Lyn Thompson, R.N. at the Diabetic Center, to the staff of the Ridge at Shawnee Manor and St Rita?s Hospice. Survivors also include 11 sons, J. Greg (Barbara) Garlock, of Lima, Ohio, Lawrence (Catherine) Garlock, of Lima, Ohio, T. John (Kathleen) Garlock, of Alexandria, Virginia, Timothy G. (Diane) Garlock, of Lima, Ohio, Tony (Kelli) Garlock, of Marietta, Georgia, P.J. (Theresa) Garlock, of Lima, Ohio, Robert Garlock, of Dayton, Ohio, Christopher (Michelle) Garlock, of Lima, Ohio, Martin (Jill) Garlock, of Lima, Ohio, Vincent (Kirsti) Garlock, of Alexandria, Virginia, and Peter (Nicole Anderson) Garlock, of Elgin, Illinois; a daughter, Monica Garlock, of Lima, Ohio; 31 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha (Junior) Kuhlman, of Lima, Ohio, and Kate (Richard) Dilts, of Portsmouth, Ohio, a brother, Karl (Jeanette) Garlock, of Salter Path, N.Carolina; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Garlock, of Lima, Ohio, and Carolyn Garlock, of Findlay, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alisa Jayne Garlock; four sisters, Sister Maria ?Beth? Garlock, Sister Beatrice Anne Garlock, Marjorie Mox and June Brinsfield; and four brothers, John B. Garlock, Tom Garlock, Jay Garlock and Mark Garlock. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a wake service will begin at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Father Herr Scholarship Fund or the St. Charles Catholic Church Building Fund.
