Joseph F. Guagenti, 81 of Lima, Ohio died on Monday, October 17, 2011, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.
Born Thursday, January 16, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Frank J. Guagenti and the late Virginia Macaluso Guagenti.
He married Concetta "Connie" Pagoria on April 25, 1954; she survives in Lima, Ohio. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was a graduate of St. Gerard's High School, and attended Xavier University. In high school and beyond he was a competitive athlete playing with the Phillies and White Sox Baseball Organizations. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning from the war he joined his father and uncle in the restaurant business at the Milano Cafe on North Main St. He, along with his father, Frank and his brother "Donnie" expanded the business into the Milano Club, one of the premier supper clubs in Ohio. He continued to expand the business with his brother, sons and nephews with the establishment of Tudor's and other restaurants. He was a member of CIAO and Knights of Columbus. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He was a long time member of the Shawnee Country Club where he won the club championship in the 1970's. He had been a member of Bay Hill Country Club, Florida and Bent Creek Country Club in TN. where he scored a hole-in-one. In 2002 he received the Rose Award for lifetime achievement in Hospitality from the Chamber of Commerce. He loved being in the Smokey Mountains and cooking for and giving special attention to his customers. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. His greatest love of all was his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings and all of his extended family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Park, Dr. Tremoulis, Dr. Rovner and the amazing staff of 6K at St. Rita's Medical Center for their dedicated care and compassion.
Surviving are: a son, Frank Guagenti of Lima, OH, daughters, Marianne (David) Morrisey of Lima, OH and Patricia (Lonny) Kennedy of Lima, OH, sister, Gena (John) Mongelluzzo of Lima, OH., five grandchildren, Joe Gaugenti, Toni Gaugenti, Alexandria Kennedy, Nicholas Kennedy, and Madison Kennedy, a sister-in-law Carolyn Guagenti, a brother & sister-in-law, Nick & Pat Pagoria another brother-in-law and sister-in-law Joe & Juli Pagoria, and loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by son, Phil Guagenti, and a brother, Dominic "Donnie" Guagenti.
A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church with the Father Stephen Blum officiating. Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, OH.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, and Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Wake Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
