Joyce A. Shirk

Joyce A. Shirk, 73, passed away on June 25, 2023, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

Joyce was born on October 23, 1949, in Lima, Ohio, to William and Margaret M. (Hunt) Newcomer. On June 26, 1991, she married Michael Shirk who survives in Lima.

Joyce was a 1968 Lima Central Catholic graduate. She was an oncology nurse at St. Rita’s for 19 years. She was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church. She enjoyed making greeting cards and scrapbooking. She loved being a cheerleader for all the grandchildren’s sporting events.

Along with her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Amy (Jason) Offenbacher of Wapak, OH, and Karin Hoch of Lima, OH; a stepson Jeremy Shirk of California; five grandchildren, Trevor Miller, Owen Michael Shirk, Austin Miller, Cole Miller, and Margaret Hoch; and her siblings, Jim (Cindy) Newcomer of Lima, Gary (Bonnie) Newcomer of Columbus, Scott Newcomer of Indianapolis, Carol (Jeff) Ballmer of Indianapolis, and Sandra (Mike) Davis of Lima.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday June 29, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023, at St. Gerard Catholic Church. Father Ross will officiate.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
