Justin Hertel, 42, of Lima, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on August 23, 1982, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Frank Hertel and Amy Chafin, (formally Hertel).
Justin graduated from Bath High School in 2001 and then from Rhodes State College with an associate’s degree in manufacturing engineering. He started Deck Factory in Lima with his good friend, Joe Rodmaker, and eventually became the sole owner. He loved animals, especially his fur baby Yuna, painting miniature figurines, and gaming.
He is survived by his mother and father, Amy and Alan Chafin; sisters, Jenny Chafin and Heather (Billy) Darby; nieces and nephews: Holden, Andrew, Desiree, and Desmin; uncles, Chris (Ellie) Allen and Mark (Rogelio Guizar) Allen; aunt, Marsha Loebakka; and his dearest friends: Joe Rodmaker, Sheldon Gallagher, Andrew Watkins, and Chris Lovejoy.
In addition to his birth father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Jenny Allen; paternal grandparents, Frank and Ann Hertel and Ray and Jo Chafin; and his uncle, Garrett Chafin.
His family will receive friends on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 12 - 2 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima. A Memorial Service will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the funeral home.
