Karen Elmquist, 77, was released from this world to live with her Lord and Savior at 12:12 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Otterbein Cridersville Assisted Living.
Karen was born on February 11, 1943, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Howard French “Bucky” Chapman Jr. and Ilo Gray. On September 22, 1962, she married Edward J. Elmquist, who preceded her in death on July 1, 2020.
Karen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a past president of the United Methodist Women, and formerly taught Sunday school. She worked for over 26 years at her daughter, Melanie’s beauty salon. She loved her family and keeping a lovely home. She was a beautiful, classy woman inside and out, and a peace maker. She was also the baker of the best molasses cookies ever and a good “cooker”.
She is survived by her daughter, Mechell (Craig) Broadwater of Etna, OH; daughter, Melissa Elmquist of Lima; daughter, Melanie (Doug) Bice of Lima; son, Kirk (Kretia) Elmquist of Springfield, MO; son, Trenton (Kate) Elmquist of Powell, OH; grandchildren: Keaton (Casandra), Wade, Beth, Samantha (Brian), Natalie (Zach), Audrey, Tyler (Natalie), Chloe, Cross, Evan and Libby; great-grandchildren: Hudson, Pierce, Dean and Sylvia Karen; sister, Susan Strayer of Ada; sister, Nancy (Lynn) Mohler of Elida; sister-in-law, Norene Parish of Lima; sister-in-law, Mary (Dick) Elmquist-Lane of Lima; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Chapman Jr.; mother, Ilo Helser; son-in-law, Steve Kesner; brother, Jim Chapman; brother-in-law, Norman Elmquist; and nephew, Durrell “Beaver” Blank.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lima. Rev. Megan Croy will officiate. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.
