Karla Kay Boyd passed to the next life in her residence surrounded by family on July 8, 2011 at 2:22 PM. She used to say, "When I grow Up, I want to be a child again," and is now God's child in heaven.
Karla was born on December 22, 1956 in Toledo, the daughter of the late Jack William Basford Sr. and Bonnie Abbey Larson, who preceded her in death. Robert Larson was her adoptive father. She married Keith Boyd, her husband of 35 years on June 26, 1976. Rev. Roger Brown officiated the ceremony scripted by Keith and Karla at the Boy Scout Camp Lakota chapel in Defiance.
Karla was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and Christian. She drove a school bus for Elida Local Schools and took individual care and interest in each and every child. She had an affinity for nature, especially bunnies, and loved to commune with God's creation. Karla's inclusive love and care for everyone she met left her mark on many who knew her. She was the consummate grandma and loved her grandchildren. Some of her favorite things included spending time with family, shopping at garage sales to find gifts to spoil her grand kids, and attending church at South Side Christian Church, where she was a member.
Karla will be deeply missed.
Surviving are her husband Keith Boyd of Lima and her three sons, Shayne (Andrea) of Hilliard, Tristan (Jennifer) of Allentown, PA, and Justin of Wauseon. Shayne and Andrea have blessed with three grandchildren, Braydon, Brody, and her sweet pea, Siena. Surviving siblings include her sisters Gloria Larson of Belding, MI and Fay Mitchell of Fairmont, WV, and her brother Kip Larson of Monroeville, OH. Also a step-sister Chrissy Lauch and step-brother David Basford. Karla was a daughter to her father and mother in law, Duane and Jean Boyd. Karla was predeceased by her brother Jack William Basford Jr.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at South Side Christian Church with the Rev. Doug Adams officiating. A committal service of internment will follow at Fisher Cemetery in Jackson Township, Allen County. Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 8:00 PM Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
