KELLY SCOTT BRIGGS, 51, died at 12:10 p.m. March 10, 2006, at his residence. He was born Sept. 4, 1954, in Lima to William R. and Edith Sroufe Briggs. His father preceded him in death, and his mother survives in Lima. He was formerly married to Kay Hazell. Mr. Briggs was a 1972 graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School. He had worked for Weyerhauser in Columbus, Crouse Lumber in Lima and Home Depot in Lima. He was a great salesman with a great personality and was liked by everyone who met him. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He was a country music lover and played guitar. He collected baseball cards and had a basketball scholarship to Alpena Community College, Alpena, Mich. He loved to cook and was an "Emeril wannabe." He was famous for his grilling and was known as the candyman. He loved his cat, Link. Survivors also include a son, Patrick Ryan Briggs of Columbus; two brothers, Larry (Patricia) Briggs and John Briggs, both of Lima; a sister, Marleen (Jon Purdy) Schimpf of Lima; and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Briggs. Service will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Howard Allison will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
