Kenneth Eugene "Ken" "Kenny" Etzler
78, died at 8:58 PM on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at his residence in Lima, Ohio.
Kenneth was born on May 16, 1936, in Van Wert, Ohio, to late Otto Etzler and Ruth (Boehnke) Etzler. He resided on N. Washington St.
His first paying job was at the age of seven, working for the Toledo Blade as a newspaper delivery boy. At age 16, Ken's family moved to Lima where he began working at a Gulf gas station to earn money to buy his first car. Ken graduated from Central High School in 1954 and began a plumber- welder apprenticeship at R. E. Eversole. On September 29, 1956 He married Helen Ann Bremer in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven, Indiana by Rev. Harold M. Lueckie. She survives in Lima. The couple began building the family's home on Eastown Rd. While the house was still under construction, the couple welcomed their first child, Pam, and Ken later added a utility room, garage, two additional bedrooms, and two bathrooms. He immediately began construction on the family's lake house in Michigan. By the time he finished digging out the basement and constructing the 4 bedroom, two bath, and two fireplace home, Ken and Helen had three kids to help!. Ken retired as a plumber from Smith Boughan Inc. after 45 years of service and was a member of the Plumber Pipefitters Union #776 of Lima for fifty-five years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lima, Ohio. He loved fishing on Lake Erie, riding his motorcycle, and boating on the Gulf in Florida while the dolphins chased the boat. He was very proud of all of his grandkids.
He is survived by: two daughters, Pamela A. (Rod) Rumer, of Mustang, OK, and Shari K. (Bill) Young, of Lewis Center, OH; a son, David (Michele) Etzler, of Elida, OH; ten grandchildren, Mike (Sara) Rumer, Matt (Ashley) Rumer, Jenni Rumer, Ryan Young, Kayla Young, Brandon Young, Austin Etzler, Clark Etzler, Mallory Etzler, and Aubrey Etzler; three great grandchildren, R J Butchko, Ava Rumer, and Allie Rumer; two brothers, Robert Etzler of Ft Wayne, IN and Gordy (Gerry) Etzler of Valpariso, IN; a sister, Alice (Tim) Roehrs of Harrison Township, MI; and a brother-in-law Jim Boerger of Panama City, FL.
He was preceded in death by: a sister, Marguerite Boerger; sister-in-law, Hazel Etzler
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
A Funeral Service will begin 12:00 noon on Thursday, June19, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lima, OH. with Rev. Michael Phillips officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lima, Ohio.
