L. EUGENE HULLINGER, 83, died at 12:35 a.m. January 27, 2007, at the Golden Living Center. He was born May 15, 1923, in Lima, Ohio to Harry and Mary Ella Reiff Hullinger, who preceded him in death. On September 2, 1946, in Lima, Ohio, he married Emilie Rose Diomede, who died April 30, 2004. Mr. Hullinger retired in 1985 as a service manager at National Standard. He was a member of Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and the Lima chapter of AARP. He served an Army veteran of World War II, serving from January 5, 1943, to February 7, 1946. He was an avid golfer, gardener and woodworker. Survivors include two daughters, Lynda D. (James) Stewart, of Lima, Ohio, and Deborah (Robert) Mack, of Elida, Ohio; four grandchildren, Michael (Peggy) Stewart, of Harrod, Ohio, Scott (Carrie) Stewart, of Cleveland, Ohio, Teressa (Ben) Lee, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Bryan Mack, of Elida, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Lynsey, Alex, Kayla, Mitchell and Emily; and a nephew, Pete (Rita) Cianciolo, of Lakeview, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Hullinger and Donald Hullinger; and a sister, Juanita Carr. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Gerard Catholic Church. The Rev. James McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Golden Living Center.
