Larry Ludwig

Larry W. Ludwig, 82, of Lima, passed away at 7:42 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 25, 1940 in Delphos, Ohio, to Garvin and Goldie Musser Ludwig, who both preceded him in death.  On November 16, 1968 he married Nelda Sue Shafer Basinger Ludwig, who survives in Lima.

Larry was a 1960 graduate of Lima Senior High School.  He retired in 2017 from Husky Refinery.  He proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1963-1967. He was a member of the Lima Eagles #370. Larry loved to mow the grass and wash his car.  He also loved his sweet tooth, and you could probably find a donut or a danish nearby as well as a Cherry Pepsi in his refrigerator. Some of his greatest joys were watching his granddaughter play softball, listening to music with his grandson and sitting by the fire at night with his son, Matt and his wife, Sue and maybe a neighbor or two.

Surviving are his children: Mark Basinger (Katie), Sharlyn Smith, Matthew Ludwig; his 4 grandchildren: Sara Stepp-Basinger, Kari Spriggs, Dean and Jillian Smith; 2 great-grandchildren, Benjamin Spriggs and Zoey Basinger; his brother, Kenny Ludwig of Harrod and sister, Karen (Mel) Kohrn of Lima; sister-in-law, Sylvia Ludwig of Cridersville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers/sisters and their spouses: Frank (Betty) Ludwig, Arnold (Sandra) Ludwig, Elaine Morvay, Junella (Gerry) Picker, Kathleen (Jack) Armstrong; sister-in-law Gerry Ann Ludwig and his twin brother, Jerry Ludwig.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m.  Rev. Todd Cosart will officiate.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District.
