Larry E. Mason, 82, of Lima, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at The Springs of Lima. He was born on May 12, 1942, in Lima to the late Leonard F. Mason and Donna {Potts} Sites.
On February 10, 1962, he married Kathleen Murray, who survives in Lima. He retired from Ford Motor Company after several years of dedicated service. He lived life to the fullest which included many hobbies. He was an avid bowler and had multiple 300 games and he also enjoyed golfing. He was an exceptional wood worker and created many pieces for his friends and family. He liked working on old cars and shooting guns at the range and always was on the hunt for that winning scratch off ticket and then telling his family about it.
His character was unsurpassed. He was well loved by everyone, demonstrated the value of hard work and led a life by example. He had a strong faith and dedicated his life to the Lord, and made certain he passed on those values to his children. Larry enjoyed serving at church. His ultimate focus was on his “babies”, his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters: Lori (Jeff) Hefner, Linda (Shaun) Gane, and Tina (Greg) Evans; grandchildren: Jason Hefner, Micah Hefner, Ashley Graham, Brittaney Trail, Cortney DeBlaere, Mason Evans, and Olivia Evans; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Lauretta Evans; and numerous extended family, whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his “mom” and “dad”, who raised and cared for him, Hillery and Mollie Mason; a daughter and a son; and siblings: Ada Martin, Edna Sampson, Edith Cawood, Ora Lee “Gracie” Crites, Elizabeth “Bessy” Ackerman, June Evans, Helen Mason, Joyce Johnson, Warren Neal Mason, Willard “Bill” Mason, and Hillery Mason Jr.
He was especially proud of his father, Leonard F. Mason, who was a Marine that received the congressional medal of honor and a purple heart. Larry would want to honor those who served on the USS Leonard F. Mason, the ship named after his father.
His family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, where a funeral will follow at 12 p.m. Roxie Craig will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
