Larry VanHorn

Larry A. VanHorn, 64, of Lima, died at 4:29 P.M., Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Ross Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Born Tuesday, April 6, 1948 in Lima, he was the son of the late Clyde VanHorn and Pauline Carrier VanHorn who survives in Lima. In November 1976 he married Darlene "Joyce" McClain who also survives in Lima.
Mr. VanHorn was a retired Major with the Allen County Sheriff's office. He retired in 2005 after 34 years of service. He later worked as an investigator with the Allen County Coroners office. He was a member of the B.S.S.A. (Buckeye State Sheriff's Association), the F.O.P. (Fraternal Order of Police) and the Knights of Columbus. He was a 1966 graduate of Lima Senior High School, and a 1983 graduate of the FBI Academy.
Surviving is: a daughter, Jill (Dan) Lucke of Lima; a son Joe (Kate) Lombardo of Kenton, OH; a daughter, Jessica (Kenny Upshaw) VanHorn of Lima, OH; eleven grandchildren, Christian "Alek", McCormick, Carrigan and Jillian Lucke; Michael, Daniel, Angelo and Caroline Lombardo; Olivia Bercaw; KJ and Gianna Upshaw; and a brother, Ed VanHorn of Lima, OH.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard VanHorn.
