Lewis Arthur ?Art? Gaskill 78, died at 1:20 p.m. January 19, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born May 23, 1929, in Spencerville, Ohio to Earl Owen and Frances Huber Gaskill, who preceded him in death. His wife, Barbara Gaskill, survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Gaskill was an automatic equipment operator at Ford Motor Co. He was a member of American Legion Post 96 in Lima and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 in Lima. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and served in Italy. He served from June 30, 1946, to April 18, 1952, attaining the rank of corporal. Survivors also include a son, Randy Gaskill, of Tennessee; two daughters, Loretta (fianc? Richard Gross) Rice, of Lima, Ohio, and Doris Schrolucke, of Lima, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Valerie (Dennis) Kline, of Lima, Ohio, and Vickie (David) McMasters, of Lima, Ohio; two adopted children, Barbara and Johnny Valentine, both of Sandusky, Ohio; five brothers, Ronnie (Becky) Gaskill, of Spencerville, Ohio, Frank (Mae) Gaskill, of Lima, Ohio, Dee Dwayne (Pat) Gaskill, of Rome, Georgia, Tom Gaskill, of Spencerville, Ohio, and Richard (Edna) Gaskill, of Wheeling, Illinois; a sister, Helen Kill, of Spencerville, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Helena Gaskill, of Florida; and 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Gaskill Jr. and Johnny Gaskill; and a brother-in-law, Frank Kill. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Christopher Liles will officiate. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger, with the VFW Post 1275 conducting military graveside rites.
