Lillian Mae Rupel,
97, died Monday, February 20, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 19, 1919, in Gomer to the late W. Orville and Blanche Beiler Evans. On December 24, 1942, in Oklahoma City, she married H. Clarence Rupel, who died November 21, 2001.
Lillian retired in 1988 from General Dynamics as a secretary for labor relations. Prior to that she was employed at Clark Equipment / Baldwin Lima Hamilton as a secretary in the export sales department. She was a 1937 graduate of Gomer High School and also graduated from the Northwestern School of Commerce. She was a member of Gomer Congregational Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of Fidelis Class.
She loved life on the family farm. Sunny Hill Farm was a very special place for Lillian, Clarence, and their entire family. She kept a beautiful garden, ran an egg route, and joined the family in hoeing weeds out of bean fields. She enjoyed square dancing, playing gin rummy, reading, and talking and spending time with family and friends. She had a passion for traveling and especially loved exploring Ouray and the San Juan Mountains of Colorado with her beloved husband.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Phil) Naas of North Augusta, SC, and Mary (Tom) Doerter of Gomer, OH; six grandchildren, Mark (Kim) Fletcher, Rachel (Larry) Storer, John Naas, Allison Doerter, Michael Doerter, and Julie (Avery) Ashman; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Fletcher; and brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Sarah Evans.
Services will begin at 11 AM Saturday at Gomer Congregational Church. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 AM prior to the service. Reverend Jim Wilder will officiate. Burial will be in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer. Arrangements will be handled by Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gomer Congregational Church.
