Lois Whetsel,
90, of Lima, Ohio passed away surrounded by family, on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at 12:15 P.M. at Burton's Ridge Assisted Living in Lima, Ohio.
Born August 5, 1922 in Cridersville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Orval Porter and the late Myrtle (Ford) Porter.
Lois married Harry Winfield Whetsel on August 11, 1940. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1989. She retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol as their Drivers Examiner. She was the first female to be hired for this position in the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Before that she worked at Greggs Department Store as the sales manager in the gloves and hosiery department. She was a member of the Forest Park United Methodist Church and the Sigma-Zeta-Beta Sorority.
Surviving are: five daughters, Fay Marie (Lloyd) Shoemaker of Piqua, OH,, Debra Lynn (Fred) Kizer of Lima, OH, Nancy Alyce (Thomas) Hawk of Fortville, IN,, Rhonda Kay (John) Kammeyer of Dayton, TN and Theresa Ann (John) Dunlap of Elida, OH; ten grandchildren, Christopher Shoemaker, Holly (Josh) Trombley, Matthew (Jessica) Kizer, Staci (Ryan) Wingfield, Michael Hawk, Nicole (Brad) Shaffer, Ashley (McKenzie) Boling, Caitlin Kammeyer, Rachelle (Chad) Unverferth, Jeremy Dunlap; twelve great grandchildren, Terry Jay, Jackson, Zackary, Emily, Austin, Shyanne, Megan, Casi, Rebecca, Zane, Avrie, Quinn; one great grandchild to be born in June; a sister, Mary Alice Thompson of Lima, Ohio
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jodi Ann Shoemaker; three brothers, Gene, Howard and Ronald Porter.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio
A funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home with the Rev. Wanda Werking officiating.
Interment will be in St. Matthews Cemetery, Cridersville, Ohio
