Louie V. Mayo Jr., 95 of Lima, Ohio died on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, OH.
He was born Friday, September 14, 1917 in Vincennes, Indiana; the son of the late Louie Mayo Sr. and the late Marie Kennedy Mayo
He was married to first wife, Barbara Foster Southwood for 52 years, she died in 1989. He then married his second wife Louise Bender in 1994 for 18 years and she died May 20, 2011.
Mr. Mayo worked at Ford Motor Company at the River Rouge, Michigan Plant and in Indianapolis, Indiana. Retiring form there in 1982 after 42 years. He was a personal friend of Henry Ford himself. During World War II he served on the Ypsilanti, Michigan Police Force and returned to work with Ford Motor after the war. He was a Life Member of Phoenix Lodge #13 Free and Accepted Masons in Ypsilanti, Michigan (raised as a Master Mason -- October 6, 1942) and was a member of El Karan Grotto.
Surviving are son, Robert E. Mayo, Sr. of Lima, OH, and a daughter Sally Marie Jones. also surviving are five grandchildren; Linda Carnahan, Kenneth Jones, Robert E. Mayo, Jr., Shannon Kathleen Leffler and Sheryl Gaynor and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George Thomas Mayo.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will be at a later date in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti, Michigan.
