Louise Elizabeth Wimmer Zapp 92, died at 7:40 a.m. November 1, 2009, at the Lima Convalescent Home. She was born January 26, 1917, in Allen County, Ohio to John Frederick and Marie Elizabeth Muehldorf Wimmer, who preceded her in death. On July 7, 1934, in Covington, Kentucky, she married Edmund Alfred ?Al? Zapp Sr., who died April 30, 1980. Mrs. Zapp was a graduate of Lima Central High School and had lived in her beloved Lima all her life. She and her husband had a son. Following his graduation, she went to work as a secretary at Lima Central Middle School and then in the nursing office at Lima Senior High School. She retired in 1981 but continued to enjoy the liveliness of young people. She was a member of First Evangelical and Reformed Church for more than 60 years, where she shared her beautiful singing voice in worship in her younger years. She had served on the board of the Allen County Council on Aging. She was a member of the American Red Cross, the YWCA, the Lima Senior Citizens and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 Auxiliary for more than 50 years. A passion for life personified her, even in her final days. She was informed about national and world events and knew all of the celebrity gossip and generously contributed to many charitable organizations and causes. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She made a point of learning about whatever her loved ones loved. She knew about Southwestern American Indian culture, competitive swimming, hockey, hiking and jewelry. She loved to travel and meet new people. Survivors include a son, Edmund ?Ed? (Diane Detwiler) Zapp Jr., of Wickenburg, Arizona; two grandchildren, Kristy L. Zapp, of Tucson, Arizona, and Mara R. (Chip) Bateson, of Myrtle Beach, S.Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Charles ?Chad? Bateson and Edmund ?Eddie? Bateson, both of Myrtle Beach, S.Carolina; a sister, Esther Marie Wimmer Stauffer, of Lima, Ohio; two nephews, Harry ?Butch? Zapp and Gary Zapp, both of Lima, Ohio; a niece, Kay Anne Hughes, of Lima, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and her caregiver and friend, Lory Morrison. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, J. Richard Stauffer; and three nephews, Bob Zapp, Fred Zapp and Ron Zapp. Services will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Edward Rinehart will officiate. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Senior Citizens, 3400 W.
