Lyle BARBER

LYLE KERMITT BARBER, 85, died at 4:15 a.m. September 14, 2006, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home. He was born April 17, 1921, in Mendon, Ohio to Robert and Bertha Banter Barber, who preceded him in death. On August 20, 1954, at Market Street Presbyterian Church, he married Ruth Ann Parmenter, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Barber had been an educator, working as a teacher, coach, counselor and administrator for 37 years. He retired as the first principal at Lima North Junior High School. He had been the basketball coach at Lima Central High School and was the first head basketball coach at Lima Senior High School, where he also coached golf and was dean of boys. He had also taught at St. Mary?s Memorial High School, where he coached football, basketball, baseball and golf. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Ohio Education Association. He loved to play golf. Survivors also include two daughters, Lana (the Rev. David R.) Gerber of Cincinnati, Ohio and Kay (Paul) Monus of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Aldyth Barber Meyer and Doris A. Barber, both of Delaware, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Erin Gerber and Andrew Gerber, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lauren Cunningham and Ryan Cunningham, both of Lima, Ohio, and Katie Monus of Frederick, Md. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John C. Barber and R. Dane Barber. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. David Gerber will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
