M. Bernadine "Bernie" Basinger
92, went to be with Jesus at 7:15 PM on Monday, November 18, 2013, at Richland Manor in Bluffton, Ohio.
Bernadine was born on July 04, 1921, in Pandora, Ohio, to the late Bert Hews and Ara (Nichols) Hews.
On February 12, 1940 Bernadine married Paul N. Basinger, who preceded her in death on October 1, 1964. She had been a waitress in the Lima area for many years and ran the Bluffton Meat Market with her husband. She attended the Lima Community Church of the Nazarene. She loved to play Euchre, Bingo, Dominos and was noted for many many pies that she made from scratch for friends. She lived her last three years at Elmcroft Assisted Living Center. Bernie always said "I say it like it is" and that is how she lived her life.
She is survived by: a daughter Kathi (Bob) Metcalf, of Lima, OH; a son Steven (Bonnie) Basinger, of Village of Loch Lloyd, MO; a daughter Mary (John) Heyneman, of Ft. Wayne, IN; a son Joe (Helen) Basinger, of Key West, FL; ten grandchildren, Laurie & (Todd) Kirkendall, Joe (Jean) Metcalf, Chad (Melissa) Metcalf, Becky (Josh) Vermillion, Molly (Steve) Barthol, Brad (Jacey) Heyneman, Brock (Nicole) Heyneman, Zac (Ashley) Basinger, Sam Basinger, Francesca Basinger; twenty great grandchildren, Allison (Ryan) Jones, Aubrey, Logan, Cameron, Meredith, Garrett, Kennedy, Brett, Trevor, Luke, Will, Alexa, Alivia, Caden, Colston, Callie, Kaitlyn, Adria, Trent, Shayla; four great great grandchildren, Corban, Beckett, Cambrie and Paislyn; and a former daughter-in-law Sandy Basinger, of Rockledge, FL.
She is preceded in death by: a granddaughter Sarah Basinger; two sisters Mary Ellen Eichenauer, and Catherine Hews; step brother Paul D. Burkett, and step sister Martha Hilty; a niece Vicki Herold.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. with Pastor Jim Mason will officiate.
A private family interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton, Ohio.
