Mafalda (Fondi) DeFinis,

95, of Lima, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 12:20 P.M. at Lima Convalescent Home surrounded by her family.

Fondi was born June 20, 1922, Lima Ohio to Matteo and Concehetta (DelForno) Caposino who preceded her in death. On April 26, 1965 she married Renato "Lotto' Definis who preceded her in death on February 27, 1987.

Survivors are her 'kids' as she called them, Frank (Marilyn) Selvaggio of Elida, Jodi (Jerry) Harris, and Millie (Robert) Herron both of Lima, as well as many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her only brother, Amerito (Michael) Caposino of California.

Fondi was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church, Lima, where in the past she made and served
many homemade spaghetti dinners for the St. Johns Altar Rosary Society. Her interests were varied. She especially loved gardening and her beautiful flowers were the result. In earlier years, she enjoyed baking cakes of all kinds for different events. Her specialty was wedding cakes and loved to bake them for her many nieces, nephews and families of Lima.

She resided at Lochhaven for many years and liked it very much; often participating in the activities offered and was quick to "costume" up for Halloween and special occasions. Her best ones were Charlie Chaplin and the Italian Wine Lady! She took top prize for that one. She also appeared in a few TV ads for them and tended to "her" patio flowers with loving care.

She also enjoyed Bingo, puzzles, and crocheting and knitted many beautiful afghans. Some were virtual works of art.

She retired from St. Rita's Hospital after 27 years in the Laundry Department and in the Diet and Nutrition Department. Fondi then volunteered in the Gift Shop for 14 years totaling over 8500 hours.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 A.M. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at St. Johns Catholic Church, Lima, with Father Jim Szobonya officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. on Sunday, October 1, 2017 as well as one hour before services at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. A Parish Wake Service will follow the visitation at 8 P.M.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice, St. Johns Church, or St. Judes. The family wishes to thank St. Rita's Hospice, Lisa Herron, RN (her niece), the staff at Lochhaven and Lima Convalescent for their loving care of Fondi.
