Marie A. Medsker, 91, died at 6:30 AM on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at her daughter's residence in Lima.
She was born on Tuesday, November 15, 1921, in Knightstown, Indiana, to the late Vernon Rhoades and Beatrice [Sleeth] Rhoades. On Saturday, December 7, 1940, she married Joseph E. Medsker and he preceded her in death on February 18, 1998.
She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. She graduated from Muncie Central High School, Muncie, Indiana. She was a former member of the Elkettes Bowling League. She enjoyed antiques, refinishing picture frames, interior decorating, bird watching, music and singing. She gave up a promising singing career to marry her beloved Joe. She loved being a homemaker and taking care of her family and was especially dedicated to caring for her disabled son, Robert.
She is survived by her son, Joseph (Susan) Medsker of Dayton, a son, Thomas (Sue) Medsker of Lima, a daughter, Kathy Stedke of Lima, a son , James (Joni) Medsker of Dublin, a daughter, Melinda (Ted) Edler of Lima and a son, Robert Medsker of Lima. Also surviving are two grandsons, Mark Medsker and Tony Medsker; seven granddaughters, Leah (Mark) Murka, Amy (Brett) Noble, Lori Koenig, Michelle (Shannon) Kies, Teresa (Mike) Benedetto, Shelley Medsker, and Jordan Medsker, also twelve great-grandchildren and one great- great grandchild; two brothers, Philip Rhoades of Yorktown, IN and Henry Rhoades of Muncie, IN, and a sister, Jane Carr, Muncie, IN, .
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Marjorie Carpenter and Joan Snider; five brothers Robert, William, Randall, Charles, & Franklin Rhoades and a granddaughter, Amber Medsker.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at St. Rose Catholic Church, with Father David M. Ross, officiating.
Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
