Marilyn Alice Rex

September 28, 1941 — October 8, 2021

Lima, OH

On October 8, 2021 Marilyn Alice Rex, age 80, peacefully answered her Savior’s call to “Come home, my child, it’s the last mile you must trod”,  and was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior.

Marilyn was born September 28, 1941 in Lima to the late Ed and Maxine (Shupp) Phillips.  Marilyn had three brothers, Richard (Rose) Phillips, Edgar Phillips (deceased), and Bobby Truesdale (deceased).  She was preceded in death by her precious aunt, Violet (Shupp) Repp of Dallas, TX.

Marilyn married the love of her life, Ronald (Butch) Rex on July 29, 1961.  He preceded her in death on February 20, 2010.  From that time on, her best friend and constant companion was her sweet dog, Finn.

Marilyn graduated from Shawnee High School in 1959. She worked at Lima Visiting Nurses, Lima Community Church, and West Central Learning Academy just to name a few.  When Marilyn retired, she spent most of her free time at Lima Community Church of the Nazarene, where she had been a member for 32 years.  She served as a greeter, on the Seniors Christmas planning committee, S.A.L.T. committee, Choir, Ladies Ensemble, Acts Bible Study, Dare-To-Care Program, and was a Celebrant Recovery leader.  Marilyn loved the Lord Jesus and faithfully read her Bible and devotions every day.

She loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed by her three children: Michael D. Rex of Lima, Joyce K. (Robert) Chidester of Marion and Angela D. (Ed Hahn) Rex of Lima.  She had four grandchildren: Justin (Kayla) Rex, Matthew (Adriana) Chidester, Adam (Sara Frances) Chidester, and Joshua Chidester (deceased).  Her greatest joy came from spending time with her greats (as she called them).  She was known as Gigi to: Adalynn, Preston, Eleanor, Hudson and Quincy.

She was an avid shopper and could really find the deals! She loved to travel, especially to Texas to visit her son.  Marilyn had many close friends and was always up for a good game of marbles.  Marilyn had a wonderful gift of spreading joy with her ministry of sending cards to others.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima.  A service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Lima Community Nazarene Church, 2945 N. Cole St., Lima, OH.  Pastor Doug Boquist will be officiating.  Internment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, where Marilyn will be laid to rest beside Butch, her beloved husband of 49 years.

Memorial donations may be given to Lima Community Church of the Nazarene, to further God’s Kingdom or to Deb’s Dogs of Lima.
