Marilyn Alberta Stokes

Marilyn Alberta Stokes, 96, passed away on January 15, 2025, at 9:50 a.m. at her home, surrounded by her family. 

Marilyn was born on January 4, 1929, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to the late Clarence and Ruth (Gerig) Wiederkehr. On June 4, 1954, she married John “Dick” Richard Stokes, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Naomi “Anzy” Wiederkehr.  

Marilyn retired as a secretary from the American Lung Association of Lima. Music was her life; she graduated from Fort Wayne Bible College with a Bachelors in Music. In her younger years, she and her husband John “Dick” would travel as song evangelist for church revivals. For over 50 years she was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Lima. Where she played the organ and piano, also serving as secretary. She also taught piano lessons out of her home for over 40 years. 

 She fulfilled the role of grandmother to Christopher Hartman, Brandon Hartman, Andrew Hartman and Celesta Hartman; and great grandmother to Rhys Hartman, Iris Hartman, and Addelynn Hartman. She also leaves a special niece and caretaker, Becky (Eldon) Hartman of Lima; brother, Gareth Wiederkehr of Berne, IN; twin sister, Miriam Ogden of Morton, IL; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.  

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to service. Rev. Eldon Hartman will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
