Marion John “Johnny” Swaney, 75, entered the Lord’s presence at 2:55 P.M. on Friday, November 23, 2018.
He was born on Saturday, March 21, 1943, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Lloyd and Mary (Thompson) Swaney. He leaves behind his wife of many years, Marina Jo Jett-Swaney
John is also survived by daughters, Angela (David) Richardson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathleen “Kit” (Tony) Augsburger of Ottawa, Ohio, and Ellen (Matt) Bosworth of Bluffton, Ohio, a son, J. Randolph (Nikki) Swaney of Van Wert, Ohio, step-children, Jane (Walt) Smith of Lima, Ohio, Amy (Mike) Romey of Bluffton, Ohio, and Jon (Charlene) Jett of Hilliard, Ohio, 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and the mother of John’s children, Kathy Swaney. Also surviving are his brothers, Ralph Swaney of Lima and Larry (Pat) Swaney of Florida, sisters, Wava Mitchell of DeGraff, Ohio, Ruth Olgetree of Troy, Ohio, Judy Craig of Lafayette, Ohio, and his twin sister Mary Jane (David) Augsburger of Lima, and a large number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Marie Swaney, his parents, brothers Donald, Russell, Charles “Pete”, and Norman Swaney, and a sister, Sharon Rose Swaney.
John was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Air Force. He retired from the United State Postal Service after 53 years of service. He will be remembered for his love of horse pulls and horses, bluegrass music, and Ohio State football. John was also active in the FOP, the Eagles, the Moose, and VFW.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. Rev. Mike Westbay officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Westminster Cemetery. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1275.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Equestrian Therapy Program at Fassett Farms.
