MARLIN D. "WHITEY" WOODDELL, 79, died peacefully at 9:30 a.m. December 8, 2006, at his residence. He was born July 22, 1927, in Auglaize County to John and Hazel Wagner Wooddell, who preceded him in death. On September 6, 1975, he married Lauretta "Torchie" Sulkin, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Wooddell was an insurance agent for Western Southern Insurance Co. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and American Legion Post 96. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving from 1944 to 1946, aboard the battleship USS Colorado. He had a beloved cat named Candy-Baby. He loved music and played the organ. He was an avid sports fan and was very artistic and enjoyed painting. Survivors include a brother, John D. (Janet) Wooddell, of Lima, Ohio; a sister, Edith Carter, of Lima, Ohio; two daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Wannemacher, of Lima, Ohio, and Sandra (John) Sackett, of Port Orange, Florida; two stepdaughters, Sharon (Chuck) Gorby and Cathy (Roger) Heidenescher, both of Columbus, Ohio; four stepsons, John (Barb) Muleski, of Cridersville, Ohio, Randy (Barb) Sulkin and Danny (Eva) Sulkin, both of Lima, Ohio, and Jerry (Linda) Sulkin, of North East Salem, Oregon; and 12 step grandchildren and 13 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debbie Wooddell. Services will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Brother Jim Vaive will officiate. A private burial of the cremains will be at a later date. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
