Martha Newland

MARTHA L. NEWLAND, 81, died at 7:10 a.m. March 21, 2007, at Burton's Ridge Assisted Living. She was born July 23, 1925, in Lafayette, Ohio to Walter and Henrietta Fetter Fett, who preceded him in death. On February 10, 1950, she married Edward Kenneth Newland, who died June 6, 1981. Mrs. Newland retired as a nurse anesthetist from Lima Memorial Hospital after 18 years and from St. Rita's Medical Center after 12 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She was a graduate of Lima Central High School, St. Rita's School of Nursing and The Ohio State University School of Anesthesia. She loved her roses. She had also worked in labor and delivery rooms and loved helping bring babies safely into the world. She adored all of her grandchildren, and it was common for one or two of them to stay the weekend. Burton's Ridge Assisted Living was her home for the last year and a half, where she enjoyed her friends and family there. Survivors include two daughters, Michele (Arthur) Marshall, of Pleasant Hill, Ohio, and Debra (Russ) Parker, of Gahanna, Ohio; two sons, Al Newland, of Lima, Ohio, and Mark (Kelly) Newland, of Spencerville, Ohio; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Newland; a sister, Edith Kohli; and two brothers, Raymond Fett and Roger Fett. Services will begin at 7 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Richard Cook will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Ward Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of services today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or the Adam Newland Scholarship Fund.
