MARTHA M. VERHOFF, 87, died at 4:45 p.m. October 31, 2006, at Lima Memorial Health System. She was born November 25, 1918, in Delphos, Ohio to Charles and Susan C. Moreo Lucius, who preceded her in death. On May 11, 1946, she married Harry H. Verhoff, who died April 17, 1992. Mrs. Verhoff was a homemaker. She retired as an executive secretary from Westinghouse Electric Corp., after more than 30 years, and had worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for five years during World War II. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Lima, Ohio, and its St. Vincent DePaul and Altar Rosary societies. She was a member and volunteer of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 Auxiliary. She was hardworking and loved gardening, canning and her farm. She was a huge fan of the National Basketball Association and an avid card player. She helped many people. Survivors include five children, Mary Ann (Michael) Nickles, of Lima, Ohio, David (Sharon) Verhoff, of Somerville, Philip (Sandi) Verhoff, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Barbara Verhoff, of Rockford, Illinois, and Susan (Bill) Morris of Knoxville, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sister Mary Clarone Lucius, of Toledo, Ohio, Sister Rowena Lucius, of Lexington, Massacgysetts, and Virginia (Addison) Cadwell, of Dayton, Ohio; and two sisters-in-law, Linda Lucius and Marceil Lucius. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Earl Lucius, Sylvester Lucius, Lester Lucius, Virgil Lucius and Howard Lucius; and a sister, Charlotte Obringer. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Catholic Church, Lima, Ohio. The Rev. William J. Rose will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery.
