Marvin M. Evans, Jr.
Marvin M. Evans died at home in Marion, Ohio on April 6, 2016 at 88 yrs. of age. He was born in Marion, Ohio to Marvin and Mary Keltner Evans on August 15, 1927. He married Aline Hilty of Bluffton, Ohio Jan. 19, 1951 and she died Oct. 26, 1993.
He was a graduate of Harding High School and attended Bowling Green State University. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Korean Conflict, then returned to the Lima Ohio Oil Refinery.
He is survived by three daughters: Marlene (Gerald) Briggs, Chris (Tim) McCarthy, and Laura (Jim) Myers. Also surviving him are grandchildren and great grandchildren: Lisa Miller (Matt Davis), Cindi (Eric) Hall, Matt (Beth) Briggs, Jeff Myers, Evan (Heather) McCarthy, Gretchen Myers, Kelly McCarthy, Wes Briggs, Devin Burgess (Kati Liles), Katie (Jesse) Harrington, Brook Hall, Ethan Briggs, Taylor Miller (Michael Lombardo), Connor Hall, Summer Miller, Carly Briggs, Colten and Broden Burgess. He is also survived by sister Cherie Hodges, and sisters-in-laws Joann Hilty and Jackie Evans. He was preceded in death by his brother Troy Evans and brother-in-law Art Hilty.
He was active in the church life of Epworth United Methodist Church (now Family of Faith) until he moved to Marion in 1995, since then he has been a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church of Marion, Ohio where he joined in several activities including the quilting group. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for many years. Mr. Evans was also a skilled carver and member of the Whetstone Woodcarvers.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion, Oh at 4 pm with visitation from 2 to 4 pm preceding the service. A second service will take place at Family of Faith UMC in Lima, Oh Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 11 am with visitation from 10-11 am. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima.
