Mary Bourne

Mary Mildred ?Mid? Bourne, 92, died peacefully at 6:43 a.m. Aug. 16, 2009, at Lima Convalescent Home. She was born Aug. 30, 1916, in Gomer to John and Mary Ellen Jones Bourne, who preceded her in death. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Jerry and Margaret ?Mam Gee? Jones, following her mother?s early death. They also preceded her in death. Miss Bourne was the eldest of her siblings. She was a lifelong resident of Gomer, where she lived her adult years with her aunt and uncle, Martha and Bert Bray. She took care of Martha in her later years in a loving and compassionate way, until her death in 1990. She was a graduate of Gomer High School and Northwestern School of Commerce. She was a tireless worker all her life, but her first paying job came during the Great Depression at Triangle Motors. She then went to work in the Allen County Treasurer?s Office, retiring in 1977 after 29 years. Following her retirement, she worked part time at the Commercial Bank, Gomer. She was a life member of Gomer United Church of Christ, where she served as financial secretary for three terms and sang in the choir for more than 50 years. She greatly enjoyed travel and vacation opportunities with family and friends, singing contests, photography, The Ohio State University Buckeyes sports, bingo and the weekly ?Lawrence Welk Show.? For the last 10 years she enjoyed a wonderful existence at the Lima Convalescent Home, beacuse of the very thoughtful and caring management and staff. Survivors include two brothers, Richard (Rosie) Bourne, of Cle Elum, Wash., and Charles (Kolene) Bourne, of Lima; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Bourne, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; beloved cousin, Dorothy Ridenour, of Gomer; and nine nieces and nephews, Julia (David) Sims, of Port Clinton, Janice Micha, of San Francisco, John (Ilene) Micha, of Westerville, John Bourne and Jeff Bourne, of Cle Elum, Wash., Tom (Patty) Bourne, of Seattle, Bruce Bourne, of Phoenix, Chuck (Cindy) Bourne, of Wapakoneta, and Mischelle (Bob) Lacy, of Lima. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Florence Bourne; numerous Jones family relatives; a sister, Helen Bourne (Owen) Micha; and a brother, Thomas Bourne. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Brian Knoderer will officiate. Burial will be in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Convalescent Home or Gomer United Church of Christ.
