Mary Burgess

Mary M. Burgess, 83, of Lima, died at 1:08 a.m. March 20, 2008, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. She was born March 14, 1925, in Lima, Ohio to George and Barbara (Hudjak) Sciranka, who preceded her in death. On April 7, 1947, she married Carl A. Burgess, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mrs. Burgess was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of VFW Post 1275 Auxiliary and Club 42. She was the coach of the first CYO Volleyball Team at St. Gerard to win the diocesan championship. She was the world?s best Slovak cook, loved to crochet, loved her family and loved to dance. Survivors include a son, Tim (Sharon) Burgess of Lima, Ohio; five daughters, Lou Ann (Kelly) Reid, of Elida, Ohio, Teresa A. Frost, of Lima, Ohio, Mary Ann (Bill) Sommer, of Lima, Ohio, Barbara A. (Jon) Green, of Columbus, Ohio and Carole A. (Tom) Zeller, of Lima, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Carol Sciranka, of Lima, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Reid, Adam Reid, Stephen Reid, Jeff (Peggy) Frost, Carla Williams, Ryan Frost, Erica Frost, Jessica Sommer and fianc? Jason Uhrik, Tony (Erin) Sommer, Mary Sommer and Fianc? Aaron Thompson, Jonathan Sommer, Brent Burgess, Rick Zeller and Lisa Zeller; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; many great-great nieces and nephews and many great-great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Mike Sciranka, George Sciranka, Sr. and John Sciranka, Sr.; two sisters, Barbara Christoff and Anna Sciranka and a grandson, Byron Burgess. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Gerard Catholic Church. The Rev. George Blasick will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday.
