MARY CATHERINE EVANS, 87, died at 7:23 a.m. Dec. 28, 2005, at Lima Convalescent Home. She was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Lima to Leo and Elizabeth Tummel Ayers, who preceded her in death. She married Eugene W. Evans, who died Jan. 13, 2001. Mrs. Evans had worked at Montgomery Ward. She was a member of South Side Christian Church, where she was a longtime member of its Friendly Couples Sunday School Class and its Lydia Circle. She had been a volunteer at the Lima Convalescent Home for 20 years. She was known for her world-famous popcorn. Survivors include a son, Daniel E. (Linda) Evans of Lima; two daughters, Carol (Ron) Strange and Patricia (Carl) Worsham, both of Lima; two sisters, Betty Baumgardner and Martha Smith, both of Lima; nine grandchildren, Mitch (Candi) Morse, Beth Ciminillo, Tami (Mike) Foley, Scott (Shanna) Worsham, Todd (Kelly) Baker, Paul (Lisa) Baker, Eric (Angel) Worsham, Jennifer (Mel) Jones and Michael Evans; two stepgrandchildren, Pam (Mark) Tempson and Aaron (Jenny) Strange; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Wierman and infant Shirley Ayers. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at South Side Christian Church. The Rev. Douglas E. Adams and Wanda Werking will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.
