Mary Jo Kundert

April 23, 1922 — September 30, 2017

Mary Jo Kundert, 95, of Lima, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Primrose Retirement Communities. She was born on April 23, 1922 in Mount Cory, Ohio to the late Owen and Jenny {Cornwell} Stultz.
Mary Jo attended Wapakoneta Elementary and Blume High School. Following graduation in 1940, she attended The Ohio State University receiving her degree in education in 1944. She was a 1st and 2nd grade teacher in the Anna schools and at Jefferson in Lima. While in high school, she met her husband Sam Kundert. They married on April 26, 1947 and celebrated 70 years of marriage this year. He survives in Lima. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and volunteering at the Senior Center. Mary Jo and Sam enjoyed camping in the 48 states but also had traveled to Hawaii and Alaska, as well as Europe. They flew on the Concorde on the way to London. Her hobbies were crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and crafting. She especially enjoyed playing cards with the ladies after supper at Primrose. Mary Jo was also a very avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
She is survived by her husband Sam, children Mary Lou (Patrick) Moyler and Mark E. Kundert, grandchildren Neil (Terri VanHorn) Koenig, Brian (Angela) Koenig, Erin (Kathleen Babbitt) Koenig, and Tonya Koenig, and great-grandchildren Melissa (Josh Timms) Koenig, Haley Koenig, Cody Koenig, and Abby Koenig, nephews Ted and Van Stultz, niece Sandy Heffernan, and many great nieces and nephews all in the Syracuse, NY area. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers Richard and Robert Stultz.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 10-11 AM at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio where a service will follow at 11AM. Pastor Tim Benjamin will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
