Mary Ellen Johns

Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Mary Ellen Johns age 91 of Lima, OH, passed away peacefully at 4:45 am, Sunday February 26, 2017 at Lima Memorial Health System.
Mary Ellen was born on April 10, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late James W. and Bertha Newton. She married Richard D. Johns on July 31, 1948 who preceded her in death on June 10, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her only siblings James W. Newton and Kathrine L. Campbell.
She is survived by her children Michael (April) Johns of Lima, OH, Stephen Johns of Lima, OH, Lynda (Charles) Lanks, of McMurray, PA, Cynthia Johns of Alexandria, VA, Richard (Debra) Johns of Waynesfield OH; grandchildren Charles (Alexandra) Lanks of Fredericksburg, VA, Christopher (Sarah) Lanks of Arlington, VA, Christopher Johns of Lima, OH, Tyler Johns and Selina Davis of Columbus, OH; great grandchildren Londyn the daughter of Charles and Alexandra Lanks and the soon to be born, Sophia the daughter of Christopher and Sarah Lanks as well as 15 nieces and nephews.
Mary Ellen graduated from Lima Central High School and Lima Business College. She worked for many years at St.Rita's Medical Center and then, until her retirement, as Office Manager for Orthopedic Surgeons of Lima. She was a member of St. Gerards Catholic Church and enjoyed her time spent volunteering in the school cafeteria and helping to prepare meals for other important occasions. She loved to read, garden, play cards, dance and travel both in and out of the country. She was always game for a tail gate at a Findlay Oilers football game, a walk in the woods or performing on stage with the Sweet Adelines Chorus.
The family will miss the presence of mom greatly, but know that she is in the arms of the Lord. What a wonderful conclusion to her story of a life lived well.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 10AM at St. Gerards Catholic Church, Lima, Ohio. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
Her children would like to thank the Lima Allen County Paramedics, the Lima Memorial Health System and the Lima Convalescent Home for the compassionate care given Mom during the last weeks of her life.
