Mary V. Lucas 89, died at 10:36 p.m. February 15, 2010, at her daughter?s residence. She was born February 18, 1920, in Antwerp, Belgium, to Phil and Esther Watershott Verbraeken, who preceded her in death. On July 18, 1954, she married Gordan L. Lucas, who died May 3, 1998. Mrs. Lucas had worked at the Army Tank Depot and Westinghouse Electric Corp. She was a member of Pilgrim Holiness Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was born in Belgium and came to America by boat when she was 3 years old. She was a migrant worker as a child. She became a U.S. citizen when she was 16 years old. She was a homemaker and a dedicated mother and grandmother. Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Howard) Best and Anita (Denis) Glenn, both of Lima; two grandchildren, Nick Thompson and Brittany Thompson; a step granddaughter, Shannon Glenn; two step great grandchildren, Spencer North and Nolan North; a brother-in-law, Jay (Lillian) Lucas; and a sister-in-law, Jenny V. Ruark. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Nichols and the Rev. Randy Lucas will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
