MARY CATHERINE MOYER WESTBAY, 94, of Plantation, Fla., formerly of Lima, Ohio, died at 6:25 a.m. October 20, 2004, at her daughter's residence, with whom she lived. She was born October 28, 1909, in Lima, Ohio to Earl Clifford and Emma Myrtle Dillon Moyer, who preceded her in death. On November 23, 1927, she married Kermit Lester Westbay, who died three days before her on October 17, 2004. Mrs. Westbay was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she was a member and former president of the Women's Society of Christian Service and its Circle, a former member of the choir and a charter member of the Friendly Couples class. She was a member of Chapter 16 Order of Eastern Star, where she had served a term as chaplain; a member of Pythian Sisters of Grand Temple 1 of Ohio; and a past most excellent chief of the former Pythian Sisters Temple 374, and its Past Most Excellent Chiefs Club. She was a former member of the Hawthorne Club. She had served as president of the Lincoln School PTA and Lima Mothers Singers Group. She was an active volunteer for the Lima chapter of the Red Cross, where she sold World War II War Bonds, helped with Girl Scout cookie sales and served as a Civilian Defense Patrol block worker during World War II. She had been an active Republican worker serving as chairman of the 6th Ward precinct for 23 years and had been a very active worker for Republican candidates. She was a 1927 graduate of Lima South High School. She lived her life through faith and prayers. She enjoyed the many blessing of her life, including her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She also enjoyed various church, school, social and political activities. When she lived in Pine Island, Fla., she enjoyed playing bingo, doing craft work and working cross word puzzles, but most of all she enjoyed the love of her life, her husband Kermit. Survivors include two daughters, Marina Jo (John) Jett-Swaney of Lima, Ohio and Corrina Jane (Raleigh) Arnett of Plantation, Florida.; seven grandchildren, Jane (Walter) Smith of Lima, Ohio, Amy (Michael) Romey of Bluffton, Ohio, Jonathan (Charlene) Jett of Hilliard, Ohio, Marna (Michael) Balogh of Davie, Florida, Joy (Bruce) Arnett-Arthur of Deltona, Florida, Jill (Rowland) Ranger of Franklin, N.Carolina, and Cheryl Arnett of Columbus, Ohio; and 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha E. Eppinga; a brother-in-law, Peter Eppinga; and a stepsister, Mildred M. McMillen. Joint services will be held for Mrs. Westbay and her husband at 11 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Revs. Michael V. Westbay and Richard Steigleder will officiate.
