Max Shappell

MAX WOODROW SHAPPELL, 88, died at 12:45 p.m. Oct. 4, 2005, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 11, 1917, in Lima to Harvey Lee and Clara Folk Shappell, who preceded him in death. Mr. Shappell worked at the family grocery store "Shappell and Ryan" most of his life. He had also worked for Hutch and Son. He make fishing lures for Kmart. He was a member of Westside United Methodist Church. He never met a stranger and was very devoted to his entire family, especially his sisters Margaret and Dorothy. He loved children. Survivors include a brother, Allan (Martha Archer) Shappell of Tucson, Ariz.; caregivers Rollie and Chris Wrightsman of Lima; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, John "Bud" Shope of Lima. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy and Margaret Shappell and Helen Shope; and a brother, Gordon Shappell. Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. William Cronk will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Westside United Methodist Church Building Fund.
