MAXINE O. GONYA, 85, of French Lick, Indiana, formerly of Lima, Ohio, died at 7:15 a.m. November 28, 2004, at Gentle Care Nursing Home, French Lick, Indiana. She was born December 17, 1918, in Lima, Ohio to Abram and Edna Higgs Burkholder, who preceded her in death. On December 24, 1943, she married Lawrence B. Gonya, who died June 27, 1972. Mrs. Gonya had worked at the Lima Tank Plant and had cooked for the nuns at St. Gerard Catholic Church, where she was also a member. She was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 Auxiliary, AARP, and the Lima Senior Citizens. Survivors include a daughter, June (Jerry) Hartzog of Lima, Ohio; a son, Kenneth (Floella) Gonya of French Lick, Indiana; two brothers; Linwood ?Dutch? Burkholder; Frank ?Pete? Burkholder; 12 grandchildren, Lurley Hernandez of Columbus, Ohio, Yolaunda Parizek of Tallahassee, Florida, Heather Bell, Harmony Campbell, Zachary Gonya, Stacy Gonya, Joshua Gonya, Caleb Gonya, Hannah Gonya and Thaddaeus Gonya, all of French Lick, Indiana, Kerry Hartzog of Lima, Ohio and Kenneth (Marti) Hartzog of Yorktown, Virginia; and 15 great-grandchildren . She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Lee Hartzog; a sister, Pearl Shrider; and three brothers, Claude "Fat" Burkholder, Ralph "Squeek" Burkholder and Clarence "Burky" Burkholder. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
