Michael Kaye, 74, passed away at 3:06 P.M. on December 24, 2023, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Michael was born on January 20, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Mitchell and Nancy Kaye (Lasorella). On September 30, 1972, he married Roberta (Bobbi) Jean Gay, who survives in Sarasota, Florida and Marysville, Ohio.
Michael was known first for his love of Christ, quickly followed by his devotion to his family. He was quick to crack a joke, but always ready to have a deep heartfelt talk with anyone who needed it. He served his country in the U.S. Army in combat in the Vietnam War from 1969-1971. In Lima, he was a well-known and greatly respected business owner. He owned and operated R&K Shoes for 40 years, included in this time is his ownership of the Naturalizer Shoe Stores in both the Lima and Findlay malls. He received many “Best Boss” accolades from his employees. Outside of work, Michael made bible studies a priority and made many lifelong friends through church. He made time for fun and you could catch him on a golf course or driving his Corvette. He was a coffee connoisseur, cinnamon toast lover and an avid reader of “the funnies”...things he needed to start each day!
His precious life will forever be cherished by those who survive him: His son Michael (Aubree) of Lima, his daughter Christyann Lamb (Allen) of Marysville and his sister Petrina (Glenn Hasman) of Sarasota. His 5 grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy: Lukas, Abigale and Elliott Kaye of Lima and Monica and Austin Lamb of Marysville. There are still many aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews who survive that will miss him greatly. It should be noted that he was “the fun uncle”!
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on January 3, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on January 4, 2023, at Bethel Church of Christ in Ada. A brief visitation will take place one hour before the service. Pastor Randy Allen will officiate. A burial with full military honors will take place on January 5th at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel 2 Towers, Wounded Warriors Project or Bethel Church of Christ’s Benevolence Fund.
