Michael Lee Martin- dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend- passed away at Green Hills Community on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 after fighting a 13 year battle with Parkinson’s disease, just shy of his 70th birthday.

Mike was born on November 18, 1952 to William “Bill” and Ruth (Utrup) Martin in Lima, Ohio. After graduating from St. Mary’s Minor Seminary in Northeast, Pennsylvania in 1971, Mike went on to attend the Novitiate in Ilchester, Maryland and Ohio State University.  Later, he became a certified EMT.

Following his studies, he married his best friend, Constance Jane Weaver on May 18, 1974 at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church in Lima, Ohio. Mike and Connie went on to have three children:  Miranda (Jason) Greenlee of Noblesville, Indiana, Dustin Michael Martin of Canal Winchester, and K. Cody (Ashley) Martin of Hilliard. At the beginning of this Millennium, they greeted five doting grandchildren: Trevor Greenlee, Jacob Martin, Braden Michael Greenlee, Emily Greenlee, and Penelope Martin.

Mike had a long career as a skilled tradesman at Ford Motor Company in Lima, Ohio where he was previously the UAW Local 1219 Union Vice President. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 2016 after 43 years of service.

After retirement, Mike and Connie became enthusiastic travelers after visiting such places as Italy, England, Portugal, Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, and many Caribbean Islands. In his spare time, Mike was a 40 year routine blood donor to the American Red Cross, donating nearly 7 gallons of blood. He was also a former member of St. Gerard's Parish in Lima, and current member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and the Logan County Young Men’s Bridge Club in Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Mike was preceded in death by his loving parents and his daughter-in-law, Catriona Martin. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers Daniel (Jane), Stephen (Louise), Thomas (Karen) and Richard (Lori) and his sister Rebecca (Kevin) Hils.

If you wish to call on the family, viewing hours will be reserved at Chamberlain Huckeriede Funeral home in Lima, Ohio on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 3-7 p.m., followed by a Parish Wake Service at 7 p.m.  Services will be held at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church in Lima, Ohio on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 11 a.m. and celebrated by his former classmate, Rev. Mike Sergi.  A graveside service will begin on the same day at 1 p.m. at Bellefontaine Cemetery in Bellefontaine, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mike Martin to the American Red Cross, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Center, or the Logan County Art League.
