Mildred “Mid” Crawford, passed away at the age of 94, on January 7, 2025, in Worthington, Ohio.
Mid was born on July 20, 1930, in Lima, Ohio, to Cloyd “Dave” Clay and Jeanette (Stumbaugh) Clay. On March 12, 1950, she married Elmer V. Crawford, who preceded her in death on February 23, 1974. Mid was so proud of her Lima roots and lived in her home there until 2023.
In 1949, Mid graduated from Lima South High School. She worked at the Quilna Theater in Lima and was also a gift wrapper at The Leader Store downtown in her younger years. After Elmer’s passing, Mid went to work for the Lima City Schools as a cook in the cafeterias (1975-1990). She was an active member of High Street United Methodist Church until its merger when it became Westside United Methodist Church. She was very involved in her church; serving on various committees, participating in Bible studies, teaching Sunday school, taking part in women’s group activities, and tutoring local students in the after school program.
One of Mid’s greatest joys was to be surrounded by her family. She loved being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. Over the years she came to be known as a second mom or grandma to many who were not already members of her family. She enjoyed attending the many and varied activities in which the kids participated. She was always their biggest supporter and loved to share stories of their pursuits with anyone who would listen.
Mid had a passion for animals and sports. She had a special place in her heart for dogs. Her sweet poodle, Ginger, was a source of great joy and comfort over the years. She also provided care to many neighborhood dogs as well as taking in a few strays along the way. In sports, OSU was Mid’s team of choice. She loved making candy Buckeyes to share with family and friends. It is estimated that over the years she made tens of thousands of them!
Mid is survived by her son, Jeff (Cindy) Crawford of Lima, OH; daughter, Brenda (Tim) Loar of Worthington, OH; grandchildren: Jason (Mandie) Crawford, Nick (Jennifer) Crawford, Lacey (Marc) Nice, Brittany (Sean) Saffell, Jackie (Nick) Wiedenhoft, and Carly (John) Mitchell; great-grandchildren: Hana, Delana, Jordan, Caiden, Cori, Logan, Ian, Bennett, Hudson, Chloe, Tommy, and two more sweet little ones on the way.
Along with her husband and parents, Mid was preceded in death by her sister, Mary “Peg” (Henry) DeLong; and brother, Fred “Bud” (Flora) DeVoe.
The family will receive friends from 12 - 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2025, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, at 920 N. Cable Road in Lima, Ohio.
