Mildred Meyer

MIILDRED M. "MIDGE" MEYER, 88, died at 10 a.m. Jan. 10, 2007, at St. Rita's Medical Center. She was born May 7, 1918, in Lansing, Mich., to Henry and Verana Sommer Strauer, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 20, 1938, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, she married Gerald H. "Gerry" Meyer, who survives. Mrs. Meyer was a homemaker. She was a charter member of St. Charles Catholic Church and a member of its Altar Rosary Society. In 1962, she organized the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, where she served in different positions. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 Auxiliary and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a volunteer with the board of elections and the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry. She was the founding den mother of the St. Charles Cub Scouts. She was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan football. For 30 years, she ran the kitchen during the bingo games at St. Charles Catholic Church. She loved bowling and her pets. Survivors also include three sons, Ronald J. (Marilyn) Meyer, of Spencerville, and David L. Meyer and Gary P. Meyer, both of Lima; three grandchildren, Amy Meyer, Ronald (Jessica) Meyer II and Stacey Ball; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Katherine "Kay" Meyer; a brother, Donald S. (Marie) Strauer; and several nephew and nieces. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Strauer; and a sister, Rita Mershman. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. Stephen Blum will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a CLC service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a wake service at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, Lima Central Catholic High School or St. Charles Catholic Church.
