Norman Saine

Norman Dean ?Jake? Saine, 83, died at 3 p.m. Aug. 12, 2009, at his residence. He was born May 30, 1926, in Toledo to Robert and Margaret Boose Saine, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 12, 1950, in Springfield, he married Patricia Anne ?Cissy? Doyle, who survives in Lima. Mr. Saine retired in 1991 from the state of Ohio. Just days after graduating from Lima Central High School in 1943, he and several buddies enlisted in the Army and served with distinction in China, the Philippines, Japan and Korea, during and after World War II. He was of the ?Greatest Generation,? those who served their country without complaint, came home went to work, and raised their families. He always found his greatest joy in life was with young children. He was loved, honored and respected. He will be deeply missed. Survivors also include nine children, Patrick (Jenny) Saine, Mark Saine, Timothy (Kathy) Saine, John Saine, Philip (Becky) Saine, Eileen (David) Barger, Joseph (Judy) Saine, David (Tila) Saine and Kerry (Richard) Tullis; and 17 grandchildren, Maggie Saine, Katie Saine, Rachel Saine, Jessica Saine, Chris Saine, Jillian (David) Neal, Stephanie Saine, Gavin Saine, Stephen Saine, Jennifer Barger, Madison Barger, Miles Barger, Francis Tullis, Cyrus Tullis, Stephen Kesner, Kevin Kesner and Brian Kesner. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Kathleen and Colleen Saine. Private graveside services will be held at a later date in Gethsemani Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. The Rev. Howard Allison will officiate.
